It was strange to be somewhere where he felt no fear. The field was a broad expanse, the grass deep, but not so deep that a predator couldn’t be seen. Even the dark line of trees in the near distance left him without apprehension.
Out here he was alone, but okay. (more…)

Silent Lucidity

For the life of me, I couldn’t understand what a woman with such power was doing living so far out from the city. Granted, this wasn’t the sticks by any means, but the houses were spread out from each other, and just a field’s breadth away was a small woodland. Beautiful, but I’d imagined someone like her in a chic urban condo. Especially with the car she drove.
The porch was twined with morning glories, petunias and other flowers that a very happy hummingbird was diving in and out of. There was also the quintessential white porch swing and white-framed screen door, which was open.
Now the inside of the house, that was considerably more chic. An expensive looking kitchen with brightmetal cookware hanging from a rack over the island. There was a pot of noodles threatening to boil over. I decided to be nice and turn it off before it made a mess, but it made me uneasy… especially with the carelessly open door.

Rei melted down. Impressively.

Luna listened with a passive expression from the comfort of Ami’s lap as Rei ranted for a good ten to fifteen minutes about her excursion. She had lapsed clear back to how Jadeite had kept fooling people, had even managed to fool her to a degree when Ami broke in.

“He—”

“Ami-chan’s right. I saw him last night. He’s very, very sick.”

So far the only part of this entire hunt that made Kunzite smile was the thought that when he found Nephrite, he was going to drain him of all his energy and offer that up to Metallia. Such an act would first serve to keep the boy incapacitated for a while, so he’d stay put. Second it would be lovely payback for all the energy he was expending tracking him down. Lastly, Nephrite seemed to have an abundance of it, anyway. He was starting to realize just how much time Nephrite was wasting on earth. Trying to track his movements through Tokyo, he was starting to wonder when he found time to actually do anything Queen Beryl set him to. (more…)

It was a circus of the absurd. Luna was not sure what was more ridiculous, the fact that the girls were having an argument about Nephrite, or what the specifics of the fight were about. Part of it was the amount of time Ami was spending watching over their enemy. She, herself, felt that Nephrite needed to be watched and monitored, but perhaps not as much as Ami had dedicated herself to. It was Rei’s total opposition to bothering with him at all that unsettled her. If your enemy is down, so much better. He’s out of their hair so they can focus on their new problem, clearly his successor. Ami should be focusing on that. Ami was arguing from the point of a doctor and Rei a warrior. Usagi was torn between the two, and Makoto was entirely lost.
